With Ace and 6 you have either 17 points or 7. So the good thing is: no matter which card you draw, you won’t bust because with a maximum of a ten card volume you would stay at 17. With a 2, 3 or 4 your hand is even improved. And the dealers Up Card of 3 is bad, so that you are likely to win this situation.
Basic Strategy according to propabilities shows that the best expected value is on doubling down.
