Ready to roll the dice and play craps? In this video, our gambling expert explains how to make an inside combination bet.

Hey guys. I just wanted to go over combination bets in craps.

A combination bet, basically, players want to make a series of bets as opposed to just placing one number or another, and there are ways that we can do that with a little bit of craps lingo, so that dealers can make things quick and easy. First, you have an inside bet. What the inside bet is, basically, you’re just going to throw money to the dealer and specify that you want numbers inside. Typically, these are done in multiples of 22 because you have $5 each on the 5 and 9, which is $10, and you have $5 on the 6 and 8, which is $12. So there’s $22 for the case here.

If you specify an inside bet, then the dealers are going to put it the way you’d like. Sometimes you have players that prefer just all even numbers. They like to skip the 5 and 9. So, basically what you would do is throw money to the dealer, just specify that you want all even numbers, and again that’s a $22 combination bet. That would be on the 4, 6, 8 and 10 for this player here. For the true action junky, if you want to just basically cover everything, pretty much everything except for the 7, then what you’re going to do is specify, “I would like across.”

Bets across, if there iss a point established and you want to include it, because you don’t have to have a pass-line bet to do these bets, if you want to do it that way then it would be 432 increments. If you’re actually on a point, and you would not like to include the point, because you are already on the pass-line, like this guy here is, then it would be in $26 or $27 increments, depending on exactly where the point was. It would be 26 because you’re taking away 6 from 32, 27 here because you are taking 5 from 32. Again, that would cover the entire board.

Also, another type of combination bet, this is a good place to stick it here, would be the field. A lot of times, new players will come up and they’ll just say, “I don’t know what’s going on.”

The field is a very, very, very easy bet to play. In terms of house advantage, it’s not a mathematically wise play, but it’s easy. So if you go up to the game, and you just basically put your money in the field, then 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, if any one of those numbers come up, then you win. In the case of the 2 or the 12, if 2 comes up you get paid 2 to 1, 12 comes up you get paid 2 to 1. It depends on the casino. Sometimes they do pay 3 to 1, so it makes the field a little less bad for you. Otherwise, any of the other numbers would pay even money. Say if a 9 were to come up, the player could either take the money, or stack it up. However he wants to do it. The thing with the field is a lot of people are very, very excited about doing it, but the problem with the field is that 5, 6, 7 and 8 are the numbers that aren’t included in the field bet. There are 36 combinations of the dice, 5, 6, 7 and 8 cover 20 of them, so 16 out of 36 you’re going to win on the field, which is why I would stay away from it. Otherwise, that would cover all of the combination bets in craps.
