Deep Stack Poker Strategy: Should you sit out after you double up?

Poker Strategy Info And Source:

A common question: “Should I play deep stack poker after I double up? Or should I sit out and come back with a fresh stack?
In this video, I will explain the pros and cons of playing deep stacked poker, and I will show you what is important when deciding whether you should play deep stacked or refresh your poker stack.

The first important factor to consider when choosing your poker strategy is to be honest about your own abilities. Have you studied how to play deep-stacked? Do you know how to adjust to the different dynamics?

Don’t get me wrong. Most concepts that apply when you play 100BB deep also apply when you are deeper. But the more mistakes you have in your poker strategy, the more you will lose when playing deep. Thus, a solid understanding of deep stack poker strategy is essential.

What is also important (if not even more important), is the skill level of your opponent. If you find yourself on a table with deep recreational players, it will increase your EV significantly. Because even when you are making mistakes, the mistakes of your opponents are worse. Consequently, their mistakes compensate yours and you will end up winning.

That’s also why it is so crucial to table select if you want to win consistent money with poker!

You feel like you don’t really know how to play deep and increase your EV?

Deep Stack Poker Strategy: Should you sit out after you double up?

  1. Great video. The deeper the stacks, the more your opponents mistakes cost them. If you can accept the variance, get deep with players you have a definitive edge over. Work on your bet sizing and ranges to adjust for the higher SPRs and enjoy the opportunity. This is where the real money is made, not against nitty regs at 100BB or less.

  2. I don't usually comment on videos, but this was one of the most instructive and forceful videos I've seen.

Very good work and thanks for sharing!

  3. The last hand you showed with the nut flush you commented on how his river call is too wide. Sure, he can have flushes in his range but calling with AJ, J of hearts is probably a much better call than calling with a low flush. You basically only have J high flush+ or nothing when you jam over his river raise deep so having a J of hearts blocker should be much more important than having a low flush when bluff catching the river in villains shoes. But with that being said his call is probably still too wide, lets be real are we really ever bluff jamming vs that raise with some AA A of hearts/JJ J of hearts type hand? I doubt it.

  4. Hand2, Player5, deepstacked, potting every street and binks on Turn/River, must be diamant50 😀

  5. For me this is not true, its a personal choice, a 200bb spot can be very different in the SIM vs a 100bb deep spot. Less variance, less doubt about correct strategy, for me i think its best to stay close to 100bbs. One time i lose a 400bbs 4bet pot with top FH vs quads and tilted me a lot, i think this has to import too, if u can tilt with huge variance spots, just play 100bbs deep.

  6. First of all I really enjoyed this video and your content so thank you. I do want to maybe discuss the last hand. The first thing that stood out to me is when you said he can have J high flushes in the end to call your jam. Imo he has 0 combos of J high flush. QTKh on the board blocking broadway Jx hh combo and even if this guy opens J9ss that's still a fold vs bb polar 3b I would imagine. I also feel like vs 1/3rd turn and 1/3rd river sizing his raise with AsJh is not that terrible. You retain QQ KK KQs TT KT(maybe?) and AJ when you take this line I would imagine. That's a lot of combos. Your flushes when he has Jh is not that many for the similar reasons that he doesn't have many flushes. I don't think you should be aggressively 3b a lot of suited connectors BB vs UTG (correct me if I am wrong). So you are just left with the suited aces. Therefore, him putting in a raise with AJ with Jh is very very reasonable imo. I do think his call is atrocious. At last, I want to ask what do you think should be the best river sizing from you with this specific hand? You said you made a mistake with this 1/3rd sizing so I am just curious. 2/3rd? Pot? 1.5x? Jam? Thanks!
