Poker Strategy: Call Or Fold When Villains Line Makes No Sense

  1. Bart and the caller didn't also consider the 2 combo's of A2s in villains HJ opening range, in addition to AA-JJ 88 66 and AJ which beat him. It probably a good fold but also an excellent bluff spot by the villain with air because the phone caller can't have QQ+ because of the preflop.

  2. Good fold. Too many value hands and not enough bluffs/worse hands for us to call.

  3. i love it when ppl show 1 card to try to needle u but ends up revealing exactly what they have

  4. I'd call because your hand is completely disguised and it looks a lot like a bluff/stab with A-high or small pair. You have to admit that is a great bluffing situation for villain the way the hand went down. I seriously doubt he had QQ, and if he did, he's a lousy player.

  5. This is one of the first analysis from Bert, I dont agree with. I would snap call this, and I dont even think, its a close decision. The reason is, that the J, 2, 2 rainbow flop is like the mother of all "LOL I missed but so did you" kind of board. Its completely normal to bet small on that kind of board as the preflop raiser to move your opponent of his hand. And its also completely normal as the preflop defender to defend against this by floating with air and plan to take away later, when the preflop aggressor checks.

The turn and river did not really help anyone either, so both players still have a lot of air in their range, when they get to the river. When Hero bet the river, he is representing sometimes a J but more often a float trying to take the pot down on the river, and Villain is raising to get Hero to fold his floats. This is also, why he raised so small. There is no need to go big, when you are targeting hands like A high or K high, because they will usually fold to pretty much any size.

Given that Villain flashed a Q, I would say, his most likely hand was QT or maybe Q9, if he open really loose. And I like the Villains play. Hero frankly got outplayed in this hand and got his ass handed to him by someone, who I think was a very competent player.

Even if I called this and got shown QQ, I would not care at all. Because if Villain had just bet the turn and bet the river, I would still have called down with KJ. So in that situation his supposedly fancy line did not even win him anything ekstra. Pot was 100 on the flop, so its totally ok to lose up to 500 or 600 with top pair second kicker.
