  2. Few interesting things to talk about..

You say that the online guys use huge 3bets as a way to make it so villain cant set-mine. I want to disagree. Now this has not been proven or disproven but I dont believe this is why the optimal size is so large. I believe what the solver is trying to do is maximize EV versus villains calling range. The point where the EV is maximized comes with a few indifference thresholds. 1.) AA becomes indifferent to 4bet and call 2.) Hands like AK and JJ become indifferent between shoving and min-4betting. 3.) Small pairs become indifferent between calling/folding.

My thoughts is that the reason you should size down versus a rec is because you want to use a more linear 3bet range and recs wont 4bet nearly enough so small(er) 3bets start printing money. Also, if you 3bet to the optimal size at equilibrium (the large one) it is much easier for them to play the correct preflop strategy versus you as all hands are pretty clearly defined. Eg. You can fold 66 and it is not a pure strategy mistake but against small 3bet it's a pure strat mistake to fold 66.

You talked about thinking that checking this type of flop is more of a mistake (is if Art did it) than to cbet versus a fish. That's a really interesting thought. I did some solves in the past in this exact type of scenario where if you remove any strategic option which bets OTF OOP you lose <1% EV compared to a full (three bet size) strategy OOP. So checking full range is a great way to simplify strategy and sacrifice almost 0EV.

Not just that but the IP player is not clairvoyant so they do not know that you are removing strategic options from your tree. Therefore they will likely stab too often. And if they stab too often then you get to check raise or check jam the world against them to punish them.

All that being said I dont think that the bet is bad against a rec but I believe the check-range option is very viable and probably the best option in many scenarios. Given that this player is capable of raising preflop he is likely capable of stabbing versus the check OTF.

As for flop sizing – large feels best to extract value from hands such as 98s but small bets with QQc seems okay. If you were to choose a strategy that uses bets OOP OTF then it would def be polar and a large bet would work best in equilibrium (66%-100%).

As played OTT just jam. You dont want to go 3 streets with such low SPR on a board that gives equity shifting cards. If the board was Kxxr or Axxr where you are pushing a ton of equity then sure, go 3 streets geometrically. Otherwise you want to reduce the EV of their drawing hands as well as hands like TT, JJ.

River doesnt feel like its "printing money" but shove at this SPR feels necessary. If they are only calling sets OTR or if they are so nutted that you cant shove profitably then there can certainly be flop and turn exploits to punish him for over-folding on earlier streets which you should be thinking about.

    Thoughts?

  3. Yahh, but I just don't know – the creeps doing these kind of videos just seem like slimy angle shooters.
