Poker Strategy: Should We Call This River Raise With Weak Trips?

  1. The deck is rigged. There are two 8 of spades!!!!!! Love your work, Bart. Still looking to join your site. Soon though.

  2. No realistic hands improved on the river. Would she check-call a boat on the turn and risk, that the river goes check-check? That seem kind of awkward. Would she raise trips on the river? Its almost an overplay, and we block it. The only flopped draw busted. We are getting a good price. Nice call.

  3. This is kind of an obvious call… sometimes we lose to 77 or 33 but most of the time This is just some weird bluff or she overplayed JJ. If she had a big 8 or 22 she would have done something earlier.

Honestly I don't hate her play… if hero is going for value with an over pair he kind of has to fold here. But hero has a hand that is way better than she could expect him to have. Pretty easy call imo.

  4. The A9 is an ok bluff candidate… it’s actually really important whether or not the 8s is on the flop. If it isn’t she blocks 98ss. The 9 blocks a bunch of 98 combos and the A9 of spades unblocks the Axdd hands. When he shows midddling strength on river she pounces on it. She’s a tricky player. Hard for him to have many 8s in his range so he looks capped at overpairs and busted flush draws. The B.B. calling range should contain more 8s. She can’t win at showdown show she went for a very strong check call check raise line. I kind of actually like it and the fact he considers folding trips actually shows her play is decent.

  5. That’s a snap call all day! If She has you beat, just pay her! Next hand. This is a weird channel

  6. Wait.. you’re supposed to raise less out of position? Cmon Bart. It’s the opposite. You raise less in position because you want them to play more often, since the advantage of position is so valuable you’re okay letting worse hands in. Out of position, you raise larger because of two reasons. It helps narrow your opponents range, plus you want to make it less profitable for them to play in position since it’s harder for you to play for hand being the first to act.

  7. I open with T8s on the cutoff in a ring game…. So hero is not a nit, got it. hero makes a donk bet on flop after making a wierd hand v standard calls, got it. So on turn 7 changes nothing for donkey on flop, and a blank river results in a check raise and donkey calls and looks for justification for the fact donkey opened T8s and got a 3 way caller to river….
