So this was my hand, and after further reflection i still think i disagree with Bart’s analysis. Ofc hindsight is 20/20 but if we assume villain has all combos of Q9 and AQ, as well as KJ and JJ, i don’t think we have enough equity to call the turn. I don’t have equilab so i can’t check it but if we estimate it by saying we have AA with the As we don’t have enough, so when we add in that sometimes villain will have AsQx and we get stacked when we bluff a spade. If you see this Bart I’d appreciate your feedback on this line of thinking, or equilab data that says otherwise
As they say–Don'r go broke with a pair! I don't mind that fold at all. Let's say you make two pair or a set or even a straight on the river, then what? You don't know if you are good or not, but you are kind of pot-committed…even if you don't improve and it blanks out on the river you still have a tough decision. He avoided all that and lived to fight another day. Good fold.

I don’t think calling the turn to bluff a bad player with a smallish bet off a hand if a spade comes is a good idea. And I’ve played a lot of 1/2 and players will donk into you with 4 spades because they are that bad. They can be literally unreadable. Maybe they think u don’t have the ace of spades and you’ll fold. It’s actually kind of hard to play at these levels cos you can’t really put your opponent on a range or any kind of reasoning. But I understand Bart is giving advice for rational players. I mean why would the guy call a bet with q9 pre then call a gut shot then bet with a flush on board?
I have to respectfully disagree with Bart here. We have a stack to pot ratio of 4,5, which is in the greyzone, where we might take an overpair to the filt, but we might also select not to. And here we are facing not only a pretty nasty board but also some pretty nasty action from the Villain on the turn.
So my default here would be to fold, as Hero did. However against certain opponents I would take the opposite stance and simply pile it in their face on the turn and force them to make a decision for all the money with whatever, they are donking into me with.
The reason is, that if we just call here, I just dont see, how that is creating a more mistake rich environment for our opponent on the river, than it is for us. Sure we have position edge and hopefully skill edge, but we also have more than half our stack in the pot already, so we don’t have much room to outplay him on the river.
And we have a hand, which will always end up as some sort of middling strength showdown value type thing, which is pretty tough to play even in position. Ultimately we are allowing him to control the river action, if we just call, and we are relying on him to make mistakes in a situation, which on average is easier for him, than it is for us.
Then you can say, does he make many mistakes against a turn jam, and maybe not. But it does not really matter, because even when we are ahead, his hand likely has heaps of equity, since it should be something like a pair + flushdraw or pair + OESD type thing most of the time. So by jamming we essentially give him two bad options to choose between, and we are somewhat indifferent to, what he does.
The only hand, we really crush and dont want him to fold, is AK with no flushdraw. But if he is bad enough to donk that on the turn, then he is also bad enough to call it off for the price, he would be getting. So I would much rather jam than call here, but my default is to fold, and I think, this is the right decision against the majority of opponents.
I agree with the hero, he put him on 2 broadway hands so what does he beat? 2 pairs has him beat, Q9 does and that was my bottom, even below my bottom. Or course the flush beats him but I do not think that was in his range since 3 broadway cars are spades on the flop. It was the proper fold, every where but the Bike, those calling stations call everything with over pairs
I'm just glad to see all of these comments because this might be the worst analysis from Bart I've seen yet. (I like Bart's channel, however, this is brutal to watch) In live low stakes, when a guy donks into you here on that turn card, it's going to be 2 pair plus SO often if not close to 100%. We're only getting 2.5-1 on immediate pot odds with not much behind. Villain can have all of the Ax flushes, 1010, KJ, Q9, AQ that beat us. Yes he can have KQ as well but even if he has that with the Q of spades, he's less then a 2-1 dog to the river. This is such a standard fold on the turn given the action.
People have been leading very frequently when hitting flushes. I feel like it's a play everyone including myself is making out of position on board changing turns like this. Easy fold wo the A of spades
