Poker Strategy Info And Source:

Bart Hanson takes a look at raising the river in poker.

  1. Ok. Here is what Bart might have overlooked. In the small stakes, players are not often thinking about ranges and combos. They are thinking about winning and losing. And raises on the turn or river are quite often the nuts. On the turn the villain bet small not because he was actually weak but because he felt scared when the straight draw came in. When hero raised, villain interpreted it as J-10. He thinks and calls because he hopes to fill up and beat J10. He does. He begs for value and gets raised again. His thinking reverts to “he probably has the nuts” and is thinking hero likely holds QQ or 88. That’s why he didn’t shove on the river. This type of thinking is common.

  2. u lose to 4 combinations
    Villain has
42 combos u beat in his range
Villain from his perspective only loses to 4 combinations but since the 3 of those 4 combinations he loses to would’ve been 3bet preflop a high % o of the time (QQ) its so unlikely you have QQ . Realistically he only loses to 1 combination you may have which is 88 callin pre, Calling flop peeling one off to bluffcatch against AK AJs KJs KTs ATs cbetting (at $1/$2 9 handed, players be opening these hands EP on a regular basis)
    Good hand 🖐

  3. there's no question here….that hand is nutted a.f. on the river and you gotta get as much as you can in the pot.

  4. Q8 is garbage hand. If it was a tournament there would be could be merit to paying because of the blinds and antes. Often going to be dominated by one of the other players and have Reverse implied odds when you flop a queen. Odds of flopping a flush draw at about the same as flopping a set then you still have to get there. Only thing you have going for you is position and I don’t think your positional advantage is going to be profitable to even offset the cost of the rake. Typically 10% up to 5 plus some casinos have a 2 jackpot for high hands and still have to tip the dealer.

    Trivial fold preflop

  5. Prime example of why I would never play a hand like this on the button. Gets you into trouble when things like this happen.
