There are many ways to gain, what has become known as a competitive advantage, when playing casino games such as Blackjack. However, before you jump in and start learning how to count cards so as to take the casinos for all they’re worth, you should know that card counting is still heavily frowned upon by all casinos and, if caught, they will ask you to leave the casino. However, seeing as card counting is technically classified as “skilled play” there is absolutely no way any casino can prosecute you, so it’s well worth looking into if you want to up your Blackjack game.
The High Low Strategy
The card counting strategy shown in the video and used by the app is known as the High Low Count and is the most widely used car counting strategy in the world. It was developed by Harvey Dubner, an engineer and mathematician who unveiled his new system in a paper at the Fall Joint Conference held in Las Vegas in 1963. From his original paper, over 100 developmental projects have been introduced and countless books written on the subject of his card counting strategy. He is widely regarded as the father of modern card counting.
The Card Counting Coach
In the video, you will see the High Low system in action and although it may appear to be easy at first glance, it takes a lot of practice to get it right. The system works by placing a point value on a card according to its rank (2, 3, 4, 5, 6 have a value of +1 and 7, 8, 9 have a value of 0 whereas 10, J, Q, K, A have a point value of -1). Starting from 0 when the card has been dealt, you will begin adding point values to the cards being dealt. The next step would be to keep a running count of the cards and you would then divide the running count to get a value. The higher the true count, the more you should bet. The app will teach you how to value the cards as well as how to keep the count so as to know how much to bet according to the value of the cards you have already counted.
Be Careful
Now as simple as it may appear on paper, card counting is a tricky business at the best of times. Casinos have gotten extremely good at identifying card counters and making life very difficult for them. This includes switching decks, introducing new shuffles and, if it gets really bad for them, they will simply toss you out and ban you from the casino forever. So before you begin making your plan to break the casinos, make sure you are 100% sure it’s worth it. The saying “the house always wins” wasn’t made famous because casinos were being beaten easily.
