Blackjack Stress Test: Ace/Five Count #2

Blackjack Strategy Video Source & Information:

I reviewed the video extensively.
Hand 19 at 13:30, I missed the dealer’s 5 in keeping the count. The count was off on all of the following hands to the end of the shoe. Not sure how I got the flat bet total wrong at the end of the shoe. Also mis-counted the number of hands.
41 Hands (not 42)
Ace/Five +61 units (change from +42)
Flat Bet +3.5 units (change from +2.5)
For those interested, scroll to the bottom of this video description for my documentation of each hand in this shoe.

Six-deck heads-up blackjack comparing The Wizards of Odds’ “Ace/Five Count” system to basic strategy.
Dealer stands on all 17s. No surrender. Blackjack pays 3:2.
One shoes. ~75% penetration.

Read more about the system from the Wizard himself, https://wizardofodds.com/games/blackjack/appendix/17/

In essence:
Establish what your minimum and maximum bets will be. Usually the maximum will be 8, 16, or 32 times the minimum bet, or any power of 2, but you can use whatever bet spread you wish.
At the beginning of each shoe, start with your minimum bet, and a count of zero.
For each five observed, add one to the count.
For each ace observed, subtract one from the count.
If the count is greater than or equal to two, then double your last bet, up to your maximum bet.
If the count is less than or equal to one, then make the minimum bet.
Use basic strategy for all playing decisions.

I chose a maximum wager of 16 units because that was in the middle of the range that he gave (8, 16, 32).

The Wizard also recommends the following liberal table rules:
4-8 decks
Blackjack pays 3 to 2
Dealer stands on soft 17
Double after split allowed
Late surrender allowed
Re-splitting aces allowed
75%+ penetration

However, for consistency with prior series I did not permit late surrender nor re-splitting of aces. This changes the house edge from ~0.25% to ~0.40% according to the Wizard’s Blackjack House Edge Calculator, https://wizardofodds.com/games/blackjack/calculator/

There are still a few things left undefined about the system by the Wizard. As with other systems, what to do in cases of multiple wins due to splits and double-downs and what action to take on a push. I have chosen to treat multiple wins as a bonus and to not use them in the basis for doubling up the next wager when called for. A push will also not result in a doubling of the wager when the count is already 2 or greater. If during the hand which pushed, if the count changes to 1 or less or 2 or greater, the next wager will decrease/increase respectively to the progression as defined.

Each player starts with 50 chips.
Flat bet player bets 1 chip per hand.

Table minimum: 1 chip. Table Maximum: 100 chips. This would be the equivalent of a $5/$500 table.

Blackjack Stress Test: Ace/Five Count #2

4 thoughts on “Blackjack Stress Test: Ace/Five Count #2

  1. Why dont you count like this
I think my one is better than you

    5 is +4
    10JQK is – 1

Count till + 8 double your last bet
Count till below +4 minimum your bet

  2. Big fan, but i am wondering can you do betting method on a video poker 9/6 jacks or better?
i was thinking along the lines of 25/25/25 and each 25 credit is compressed of 6.25 and if you lose that use the stern method moving up to 0.50 25 credits? or maybe you could come up with your own system and test on here?

  3. Can you test Dr.Toms betting systems?

1 – The 1-2-2: First bet is 1 unit.  Win or lose, the second bet is 2 units.  If the 2 is won, go back to 1. Always go back to 1 after winning a 2.
If the 1 and 2 both lose bet 2 one more time.  If the 1-2-2 are all lost, go back to 1 and start again.
Stop live betting and go virtual after 3 or 4 losses in a row and wait for a paper win before resuming betting.  The pattern of whether or not your paper bets consistently win will guide your decision as to whether or not to go for the 4th. NEVER go past 4 losses in a row.
Bankroll for the shoe 6-10 units.  I usually limit my risk to 8 units in any shoe using this MM.

     # 2 – The Level 5:
1-1-1-1-1. If at the end of the last bet you are plus 1, 3 or 5  units, stay at the same 1 unit level.
If you are 1, -3 or -5 at the last bet, go to 2 unit bets2-2-2-2
    2.
If you have recovered you losses from the 1s. go back to 1s.
If you are still minus in the shoe, make just enough more 2 unit bets to get plus in the shoe, then restart the 5 L1 bets.
In most shoes, you will not go past the L2 bets but do not hesitate to go the L3 bets if you have money left from your buy in of 8-10 units.

A fine pointIf I am betting at L2 or L3 and win my first 2 or 3 in a row, I normally back down to 1 unit bets for the last 2-3 in that increased series.

    THE 25/35
This is in large font because as of the present date (5-14-15), this is my preferred way of betting.
It is very conservative and only goes 6 steps (after the 2-3 level table minimum bets following the Virtual win explain in the beginning of this chapter).
First bet:  $25 continue betting $25 until the first loss
Second Bet:  $35 if won, go back to $25 if lost
Third Bet:  $45 if won, go to $35if won back down to base                                             of $25
    Fourth Bet: $55
    Fifth Bet:  $65
    Last Bet:  $ 75
Your base bet and incremental increases can be whatever you want:  50/75  100/50  500/750  1000/1500

  4. also could you couple a 1, 2, 3 system combined with a knock out?
    1 = 3 units ,,,2= 6 units ,,,,3 = 10 units any loss interruption revert to 1 or 3units
i read this in blackjack formula 1982 but it doesn't work on some blackjack software losses occur too damn often to capture a 1 2 3 win sequence and 2/3 of the time when i do reach third bet it wipes out all my previous winnings
