Qualifying Craps Shooters – Saving Money to Win Money?

Craps Tips Video Source:

Should you bet your full strategy and assume full risk on every shooter? What if they can’t throw the dice? Well, that brings up the question of Dice Influence. If it’s real, then qualifying shooters is probably a big deal, right? But if every throw is purely random, then is there such a thing as a ‘Good Shooter?’

We’ll do a few quick variations to take a non-conclusive look at it, but let’s start the conversation about shooter qualification and start looking at some techniques.

  1. If I see a shooter just making an effort to influence the dice, chances are he will hit a point, make some passes and possibly hit some hard ways. Gotta watch for them when playing the don't or DC. one more thing. a good shooter is going to be someone who is gentle with the dice. Easy landings soft bounces on the back wall. Violent dice throws result in 7s. dice set seems not as important as gentle tosses. However, dice sets tossed gently will produce more hard ways.

  2. When I "set" the dice ; it gives me possible dice control !!!! You can take this statement with a grain of salt !!!!

  3. Random Rollers can also be what I call 'Rhythm Rollers', consistent throws and quiet landings. My confidence rises in Shooters concentrating on their throws, hitting their spot, and not spraying the dice all over. It's what I do. Although I'm not a 'DI', pretend that I am. 3-V set, grip and toss like they teach. Why not, seems to work more often than not. We're all looking for an edge.
Required betting has arrived at my Casinos. If your not putting it out there, make way for someone that will. If tables are doing a business, you'll be waiting anyway, here's your 'qualifying' observation time. Every strategy is looking for a specific delivery of bet win(s). Do a mental run through, would your bets be winning? Do you shift strategies to what is winning?
Qualifying Shooters is best done with low cost, high probability bet(s). If 1 or 2 wins mitigates your exposure, you'll stay alive for the roll(s) you really want. Couldn't agree more, that "Betting' strategy is how to overcome 'House Edge'. Smart bet choices are important, but they aren't enough for better chance to profit. At some point you've got to get some money out there. Thank you John for exploring interesting topics. What to do with the profit from a bet win? Does your strategy position you to cash in if wins continue? And yes, how to get chips to the rack?

  4. Too many Questions to answer definitively. I always say qualify every shooter that you are going to bet one, especially yourself. It is very common for me on my first toss or two, to have a line bet and come bet with no odds – yes the dealer looks at me weird – but I'm used to it. I do like to look at a toss before going rightside on anyone I don't know. I may bet DP wait a toss (PSO) or then DC or place the six and eight depending on what I see from someone I don't know. IT boils down to. do they set? is it actually the same set? (sometimes you can't see) … are the consistently hitting the same LZ toss after toss. I know other guys that want to see 2 box numbers before they place a bet – and even then it is 6&8. Those guys avoid losing passes to craps numbers and they avoid the PSO.

Personally, I like to see what my sets are producing, if they are producing the numbers I expect I get more aggressive – can I hit two horns to start? IF so that's a big plus. I have caught long rolls with a DP and 6&8 …. the traditional One hit Can't miss bet. I have also seen times where they roll everything but a 6&8.

Trust your instincts, trust your mechanics when you qualify yourself as a shooter …. bet smart – are you hitting the numbers you expect with that set? Question answered with questions. But I know guys that I will bet on right from the get go almost – yes I will start light on the bets – but if they hit what I expect from them, lights out then. I don't believe in math, I believe in Physics – its a different genre in the sciences – Newton's third law is: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The statement means that in every interaction, there is a pair of forces acting on the two interacting objects. The size of the forces on the first object equals the size of the force on the second object. Control the Force, you control the reaction.

  5. Hi John, I'll be honest with you at first I thought DI was BSSH( BS Stacked High) well now after much practice with different dice sets and finding the perfect comfortable grip for my hands which was key for me. Then I would block out all my thoughts and stayed focused well this has worked for me and I am 80% better more confident and comfortable and seen the results . I am now a believer and I continually practice everyday, because I don't want to lose out on what I have gained. My last trip to the casino, I had more comments on how well and perfect I throw always on access again 80% .however.,My rolls do slip a little bit still. I made progress and made a lot of money for a lot of people at the table. It's a Great great feeling. I also went back to playing the light side when I'm throwing because of this new confidence I have. I'm glad you're enjoying your trip in Vegas. Have a pleasant day! Dan

  6. Just for the record, the 5 count does not dictate which bets you make. You can make place bets after count of 5 if you wish. Another way to use the 5-count with come bets is to place a come bet at the count of 4, followed by another come bet which hedges the first bet and if it gets on base, you have 2 come bets to add odds to if you wish.

Although, GTC chose a count of 5, you could choose a different count if you prefer (it's your money). For instance, the PSO denier is actually using a count of 2.

  7. You asked … you had a lot of questions … would have sent you this as an email but I don't have it soooo …

    Qualifying Shooters:
Yes … actually, I prefer to spend time watching all the shooters at a table (or at least most of them, depending on how busy the table is) before settling in and starting up sessions. I probably fall into qualifying tables as cold/choppy/hot more than worrying about single shooters. Yeah, yeah, no guarantee upcoming rolls are going to follow prior but how many times have you been at a table that's stone cold or on fire? Enough times that I'll at least start with a strategy that reflects the current state.

    Sacrificial Rolls:
Absolutely NOT. Matter of fact, my biggest complaint with most ALL you crap YouTubers is that all of you are constantly whining about how the come out 7 can destroy most all strategies (the bane of the Don't Pass shooter, the elephant killer if you are playing across or inside bets that are ON for the come out roll, etc). I think you should start thinking about using TWO strategies. They each stand by themselves as "pre-point" and "after point". Shift the risk from the 7 to some other number on the come out and take advantage that the 7 should roll (i.e make money) more often. Brian (Hawaiian Shooters) is somewhat doing this with the EZ methods, I follow those at times.

Bet Differently (me vs. other shooters):
Not really; I may be a bit more frivolous when I roll and place Horn and/or Field bets in hopes of getting on a horn roll knowing if I did that on every shooter the house would be smiling and my bankroll suffering (However, I do love it when you get on that 5 or 6 horns in a row while pressing a unit or more on each hit).

    Dice Control:
I think "control" is a bad term to use. I like "influencer" better. Maybe I'm splitting hairs here but the word "control" to me implies explicit (and NO I don't think anybody can specifically throw totally controlled rolls or even high percentage ones). On the other hand, "influencer" implies maybe not precise BUT it may have some merit or effect. Granted this may be a very, very low percentage edge but what to heck, any is always better than none. So this goes back to qualifying shooters, it gives me more comfort to see somebody trying a dice set, shoot a rhythm (slow, flat, deep, short, a motion) rather than the Friday night special who grabs and chucks (may or may not even keep the dice on the table) with each of his/her rolls. This also plays into that "wait and watch a round" when you first come up to the table. By the time I'm playing I've probably seen each shooter throw at least once or twice and have made some sort of judgement call (right or wrong), that's just me. I would agree "wasting rolls" once you're on the table doesn't make sense (5 count seems to fly in the face of how often you're going to see a 7 surface). If you're 5 rolls in, seems like you're bucking the odds to tie on to that long 20/30+ roll. I will "waste some time" before I settle in on a table just to get that "allusive feel" of how things are going.

    Strategy:
I just recently purchased Wincraps and I'm really looking forward to writing some scripts and testing out some of these "pre-point" strategies. One in particular I've been using and like is a $100 Lay Bet on the 10 and a 10 Don't Pass for the come out roll. If a point gets established, you vary the odds lay bet you make on the Don't Pass (I'm using $80 for 4/10, $30 for 5/9 and $6 for 6/8). You can also bet a few bucks on the hardways if the point was a 4,6,8,10 to hedge the Lay amount further if you're so inclined. On come out If the shooter throws a 7 you get $50 (ok $48 with vig accounted) which you can now take and flip into a "after point" strategy which is house money at this point (I like $15 on the 5, $18 on 6 and 8 with a $10 field bet followed up with half presses on any hit). If multiple 7's are rolled the amount available to use inside can go up so you can play $66/88/$$ inside or some $$ across bet … your choice. Or you can just rack the come out winnings, sit back and wait for the next shooter (a grind, but has proved positive more than negative many times for me).

    Roll on,
    Robo

  8. I do dice control, so I'm a believer.
I don't really qualify a shooter and yeah, I think its wasting rolls but I have kinda done it before. Like when a guy keeps throwing 7's on the come out, I might lay a number or throw money on the PL.
One time I kept seeing PSO and so I had the dealer place my bets, but leave them off for the first roll. Sure enough, shooters kept doing PSO for 3 shooters. Then the pit boss asked about my bets being off, and told the dealer to take them down if its been more than 2 rolls, and return my bets to me. Kinda bad, since I was trying to save the dealer some time and energy by not having to keep putting my bets up every time.

  9. I said this one time when I first started watching craps videos about 7 years ago. Someone got so butthurt over it lmao

  10. Oke chief yes I believe in control ways, wons I see a person just waiting, and when he like dhe way a schuter ,schut, he begins betting dhe hard ways $and hits, dobel dhe bet, hit 2×, hard ways.
