  1. Yes the odds are better, from the moment the point is established. Jimmy the Greek, was the best known don't better. I am one as well, we are small in numbers.

  2. What he is saying is true, once the point is established the odds are in your favor. Notice he said the casino has no vig and are paying you out true odds. With a session bankroll of at least 100X your total bet; you should be able to survive some significant losses and swing back to profit. "You are paying more to get less," because the house has no advantage over you. This is why don't betters can remove don't bets any time they want. Once the point is established, the odds are in your favor. You should try to take max odds when possible and bet the hard numbers, as a hedge against even combinations. Remember the three combinations of "7" are your friend, use it to your advantage.
