How to start playing live poker

Learn Poker Video Source & Info:

How do you start playing live poker for the first time? Whether you’re a novice player or a online grinder, I’ve got some advice for you in this video.

From my own experience, playing for real money right away might not be the best idea, especially if you don’t earn a lot of money. Try to play with friends first or find a freeroll poker tournament to get your feet wet, you’ll learn something either way.

When you play live poker, even if you have online experience, start out by selecting carefully which hands to play. Your main objective should be to observe the other players and get accustomed to the live poker scene, rather than playing as many hands as possible.

When you’ll eventually win your first tournament, don’t fall into the trap of thinking you’ve invented the game. You’re going to feel invincible for some time, but let that not fool you – poker has still a lot of variance and you’re going to witness long stretches of losing at poker tournaments again.

Last but not least, realize that in live poker, you’re going to give away information. And so do your opponents! Use it to your advantage and develop that skillset as early as possible.

  1. I remember my first live tournament. I ran good and won it, I also somehow remember some of the hands that people played since it was so different from online. I also remember people telling me to be careful about not showing my cards when I looked at them.

  2. About live poker tournaments:
How do we stack our chips so that we can easily count our stack and play comfortabily?
How do we count opponents' stacks?

I have been playing online for 3 years. Live poker is illegal in my country but on vacations i play live poker. Last year i won a small tournament. . As blinds increase, i lose count of how many BBs i or other players have. I was constantly counting etc. It was really uncomfortable. Hopefully stacks were shallow and it was mostly a pushfold game.
