Learn How to Properly BET!

  1. "I could not find enough bluffs here so I folded". If I were a coach, I would follow this up with a few questions:
    1) Ok, so how many value hands do you find here?
    2) How about value hands you actually beat?
    3) And now, back to the bluffs – how many do you think villain actually does have?"

  2. Caller: “his effective stack was lower than mine” 😂

Also caller: I call with black queens bc I don’t block the flush draw. I couldn’t find any bluffs so I folded. 😂

Doesn’t know what effective stack means but understands blocking properties

  3. The caller is the type of a player that thinks he thinks and plays on a high level, but is actually just a weak reg that doesn't read (exploit) live scenarios well enough. But kudos to him for calling in wanting to get better!

  4. This is absolutely one of those spots where a good portion of the player pool has no clue what to do in UTG1 perspective OTR. Some players think that AK will call them down and some will think that they can get an overpair to fold to them. I think it's important to know spots like these, because a lot of players get put into a blender in tough spots.

  5. I just played online on ClubGG in a 0.10/0.20 game and I was exactly in this spot. With effective stacks of 175BB I had AA in the SB and faced a HJ open (3BB) and a CO caller. I 3bet 4.5x. Only the CO called. Flop came 755 rainbow. I cbet slightly on the bigger side, just like Bart said. Me cbet was ⅔ of the pot. He tanked a couple of seconds and called. Turn is 4d (so two diamonds are now out there, which is kinda irrelevant.) I continued betting, this time half pot, so I could jam the river with another half pot sized bet. Surprisingly he raised all-in after a short tank. I called, just like Bart explained in the video. I ended up loosing against A5o. I’m still happy with my play. Would you played the hand differently? Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪

  6. Never folding here. Before I reveal I told myself “I bet this guy has 99/1010 here and just thinks it’s the nuts”

  7. I wouldn't rule out 99-JJ just because V tank called on the flop. bad players will consider raising overpairs in this spot

  8. I agree with the bet size complaints on flop and turn, but for the river, I strongly think this is a fold against an unknown.

    1. UTG raise (strength)
    2. UTG calls 3bet (not necessarily capped if Villain is tight, some people flat to trap with AA/KK)
    3. Checks-calls low board. Tank is potentially to think about raising.
    4. Check-calls low board again. Tank is potentially to think about raising.
    5. Leads all in, against someone who has bet twice on a very dry board.

    – Pocket pairs we are beating: 99, TT, JJ would not do step 5. If Villain though hero was bluffing/drawing, then they should let hero bluff again on the river (since none of Villain's river value bets would do anything). If Villain thought hero was value betting, then they should definitely NOT shove into a better hand.
    – Missed flush draws are few in number (UTG raise + call 3bet, removes a ton of the lower flush draws, mainly leaving only Ax).
    – Very few missed straight draws (only possible ones on the flop, 76s and 56s got there)

All of these scream 88, Aces, or Kings that decided to play trappy, then rush to get all the money in on the river. Only reason to call, if we look at an exploitative standpoint, is that Villain is a fish. And if Villain was talking strategy the entire night, then they are much more likely to be fish.

My experience is 10NL online, so maybe that is different from live where people are more gamble-y? I think most fish (besides maniac fish) would be content to check-call (all in) on the river with 99+, and only lead shove with QQ+.
