Poker Strategy Info And Source:
GTO stands for Game Theory Optimal. If you don’t understand what that means, it means you’re going to make the best possible move in every poker situation. You can be profitable taking this path, but the game of Texas hold’em poker is more dynamic than that.
Let’s say you missed your flush on the river and you’re playing against Steven, who is a calling station. GTO might tell you to bluff that river because it doesn’t take into account the playing styles of your opponents.
If you were playing against Larry when you missed your flush on the river, it might be a good bluff because Larry has shown that he is more inclined to fold.
A lot of poker strategists are going to recycle information and play it safe. I’m not. Here’s what I will tell you about GTO.
One, it’s going to take a lot of work and study.
You’re going to need to learn starting hand ranges, minimum defense frequency, bet sizing rules, and a lot more. You must also be capable of memorizing everything.
Whether you should go down this road or not depends on one simple thing: Are you left-brained or right-brained?
If you’re left-brained, which is more on the technical side than the interpersonal and intrapersonal side, then it’s probably the right road for you. You can play this game without getting emotional and play the numbers.
If you’re right-brained and more on the creative and play-the-player side, then GTO is probably not for you. Plain and simple.
