Optimal is Not The BEST Poker Strategy – Why?

Poker Strategy Info And Source:

I’d say half of poker players don’t understand this concept?

The player who is closest to optimal play is often doing better, but that doesn’t have to be the case and very often isn’t.

Studying GTO poker is extremely valuable – no doubt – but assuming that being closer to GTO than your opponent makes you a favorite has led a lot of people to misjudge (overestimate) their edge.

Study optimal play, but don’t be rigid. Read, react, adjust.

  1. This is not true if your opponent went to future math-land and came back playing a perfect GTO HU strategy- ,barring things like cheating, severe tells, etc

  2. I probably don't understand it properly, but u r not gonna outplay a GTO by playing exploitative strategy, unless the opponent makes mistakes and therefore doesn't play GTO.

  3. sorry, but thats wrong. you cant play exploitable vs GTO. its kinda the deffinition. sorry but thats just how it is lol

  4. I keep trying to explain this to my GTO friends and they just don't understand what I'm talking about. They know the computer is smarter than them so they assume it's smarter than everyone else too. If you aren't willing to break GTO in game to exploit your opponents human tendencies, you'll never win long term against these "GTO wizards."
