Poker Strategy: Nut flush gets back raised on paired board

Poker Strategy Info And Source:

It’s the last hand of the night for the caller and he takes a passive line with the nut flush draw. Suddenly a field player wakes up with a backraise all-in when the Hero makes the ace high flush. Bart discusses why this may not be a fold as the caller takes a huge sizing on the turn.

  1. If hero planned to raise fold the turn, then he raised way to much. His raise commits him. Would have liked to see a C bet. NH tho GL!!!!!

  2. I don't like raising the turn because what bluffs does hero have? You are basically only targeting a couple flushes J9s, 54s, KJs, J8s, etc depending on how wide they limp preflop and call $41 (7bb). Hero could have TT or 77. There are only a few combos of flushes available given the flop texture and hero's blockers. There are also 66 (1), 77 (3) 76s (1), only about 5 combos of boats or quads, then 98s (1) for straight flush. In terms of boats vs flushes available unless they are limp calling hands like Q8s or Q9s, i would imagine the combos to be rather close together.

Flop should likely just be like 25% sizing for cbet with Tx+ and flush draws, maybe some 77-99 for thin value protection but probably checking.

Preflop also should be a little bigger around $50. If $20-$25 is standard for straddle pot, 4 limpers gotta throw in at least another $25 on top of your standard raise. Since your deeper I would go even larger $50-$60 range. You have SB who is stuck $2000+ you are targeting, then a lag who is limping…. Got like $30+ in dead money, with position, range advantage, Iniative, etc.

Larger preflop, small cbet sizing, and then barrel off on turn… If called on flop and turn, I would use smaller sizing being we hold Qc as well on the river. Can't expect to have polarized sizng and be called by Jc9c type hand on the river.

  3. Horrible spot. Seems like you have to be up against a boat on the turn I probably be a nit and fold
EDIT: now I see the end. Wow well I'm an guy

  4. When the villain tanks and mumbles " what?, do you have an overpair ? " It smells like a 6 all day ! At these stakes only the worst of OMC's can't fold overpairs . At a minimum OMC has A high flush !

  5. It seems funny how you make so many math errors when explaining, when you get hands in advance emailed and graphics on the screen as well. Understand somewhat on these call-ins, but the other daily posts lol. You certaintly were not strong in math.
