Remember that it is OK to lose small pots to calling stations because you will win much larger pots when you start to make stronger hands.

  1. Check behind or throw out a DK, we don't make a big value/big semi bluff bet here

  2. I would check to the calling station. Or if I did bet, I would bet small. But i tend towards at check back because no matter what they are calling. The only reason I would bet is To increase the pot to allow me a bigger bet on the river if I hit my straight or flush.

  3. So I played against a calling station over the weekend and lost a huge pot against them going for thin value.

Playing 1/3 at MGM National Harbor.

This calling station was running hot (at this point, the table figured him out and got all his money), he hit 2 high hands when someone else flipped a full house. He was at 1200 at a 500 max table. I was at 580.

Calling station is UTG and I’m in the CO

CO limps and 2 limp behind by local regs hoping to stack him.

I have AJs and raise to 30 (my normal open is 15 plus the callers) station calls regs fold.

    Flop comes
Jh7s5c. Station checks, I bet 45 and he calls.

Turn. Is 8s. Station checks, and i bet 80. He calls .

River is a 3c. I bet 200 and he calls. He turns over 53o for a rivered 2 pair.

He gets triumphant and brags about how he “got me”

I didn’t get frustrated and logged this play in my head. I stuck around 3 hours later then I wanted and chipped away at him. I ended up stacking him when he flipped 2 pair with J8o when I had KJs. The turn and river were both 10s and his 2 pair got counterfeit. He pushed all in and I called (it was a tough spot but I knew he could easily be over valuing a marginal hand and he kept saying he wanted all my chips).

Perseverance and recognizing a leak and then exploiting it, turned a night that started stuck into a big winning night.

  4. on a Q96 board wouldnt they have about a 12% to have a queen cause they have two random cards

  5. Paused the video to answer. On the turn, gut shot and flush draw, and it’s double suited. Against a lot of players, I like an over bet. Against a calling station…check please!

  6. I think i just call here if they are a station, if I get there on the river I can prob bet big regardless and still get a big pot.

  7. If you can't figure out how to exploit a player who calls with any pair, any draw, and sometimes ace and king high, and will rarely raise you and never bluff-raise you, well, poker may not be for you.
