How To CRUSH Short Stacks [World Series of Poker]

Poker Tips Video Source & Information:

Today I am joined by PokerCoaching coach Tristan Wade! We are analyzing a hand that he played in a $3,000 Freezeout tournament at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, Nevada!

We discuss the merits of a dying art form in the poker world; the freezeout tournament! Most poker tournaments now have become rebuy tournaments which favors the professionals as they will generally have unlimited bullets to fire!

In this poker hand Tristan opens the button with A6o and a short stacked poker professional decides to defend the big blind.

They discuss the range of hands that would defend the big blind when they are around 20 big blinds deep. It is important to start to narrow your opponent’s range and certain hands can be discounted as there are many hands that would just want to 3bet shove (all in) rather than defend.

On this Poker Coaching channel we cover a weekly poker topic to help improve your poker strategy!

In order to take your poker game to the next level it is vitally important you learn all the nuances of the game.

Do you know what ranges of poker hands you should be playing from each position? When should you 3-bet, call or fold? When is the right time to make a hero call or a huge bluff? Do you know how to play preflop, flop, turn & river effectively and how should your poker strategy change depending on the street? What difference does it make if you are playing multi-way vs heads-up?

  1. You and Tristan are a great team, love the conversation you guys have.
Also, Tristan seems like an incredibly bright player and someone who is naturally a good instructor.

  2. Didn’t really explain much about actually playing against short stacks. Also in my opinion the line the short stack took there was not a good line. I understand you are a pro and I’m not but He is never getting called by worse on the river there and turning his hand into a bluff that only gets Ace highs out of the pot doesn’t make much sense. There is a better chance Ace High calls an all in on the flop compared to any other street. Not sure what the GTO solvers say to do here but I wouldn’t of done this. If anything I think you are better off checking the river to keep bluffs in and calling with 74 there than being the aggressor

  3. The villain's main mistake here is the width of his defense range in BB. If he's calling 74off, what is he folding? The BB should also have a fold range because he def wants CO, button, and especially SB taking shots at stealing his blinds and thinking they can get away with an easy steal when he does have it.

  4. I was ready for that ghost spade to somehow return on the river 😶‍🌫️

    Great content, keep it up!
