  1. I don't think there's a time when Mars Volta didn't have a sick drummer. Thomas Pridgen and John Theodore (now with Queens of the Stone Age) being my favourites. De-loused is one of my all time favourite albums ever (YUP!) new album is awesome too, give it a listen mate and enjoy!

  2. Ha hah. I love your reactions to this. Onslaught is a great way to explain them. Hope you kept listening to more and didn’t give up. They can be a lot to handle.

  3. As a giant Omar Rodriguez-Lopez fan, watching this reaction just brought be pure, unbridled joy.

  4. watching your progression from "what the love is this" to "this is actually incredible" was very entertaining

  5. I've no formal music education but I'm a huge Volta nut and been playing bass for 10 years so this is how I hear/play it:
The main riff is an A minor scale, which holds for the B-section before the first chorus. The chorus starts on D minor, goes down to A minor, then goes C-E-D.
The bridge & the final solo parts are a jam that alternates between F major and A minor.
It's a weird song but there's a definite structure there, and IMO is a masterclass of songwriting. Omar (the guitarist) has a knack for choosing notes that shouldn't work, but do. Check out Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt to see the depths of harmonic dissonance that this band goes to

  6. Mars Volta is approachable if you want to, not if you want the same old tho.

  7. How do you not know the Mars Volta and Omar!? Listen to De Loused…. So amazing!

  8. sorry but they ain’t bad compared to their records. Coming from someone who adores this band
