With the upcoming Defender 23 military exercise on June 12th, NATO is increasingly pushing the boundary of how far it is willing to engage in this conflict. How is the current narrative being put forth by the US Government and media obscuring the public concern towards the risks of World War III and nuclear exchange? How high is the risk of a nuclear first strike – and what are the chances of further escalation after that? What would this mean for humans and the biosphere? In the larger picture of the existence of complex life on Earth, does it really matter who is right?

The game theory here is ironclad, Moloch will not be denied. If we let Russia hold Ukraine they'll march through Europe, and probably China will march through Japan, Taiwan and eventually India. Western leaders aren't going to step back and let that happen. I could see them reaching a peace compromise but I think Russia would need to be ready to agree, and I suspect there's a minimum level of pain they want to impose as instruction to China.
Don't worry yourself sick. It appears the Russians are quite bad at maintaining complex military equipment. For all we know they already launched a first strike, but their missiles blew up on launch or just did nothing, so nobody noticed.

What we know Nate is that Putin is in no position to go nuclear yet. He first has to secure the western borders of Russia. They call it strategic distancing. Basically by pushing Russias Borders west ideally to natural barriers he might have a chance to hold off the millions of very angry European men that will be out for Russian heads if Putin and his ppl start a nuclear war. The Polish alone would love to wipe out every Russian male on the planet and they will if Putin wants to go there. No ethnic group or country should be allowed to survive if they want to end civilization for their own delusional benefit.
Basically when you are dealing with a hubristic nemesis personality like Putin you have to know there is no peace to be had. He is willing to take the whole world down with him if that’s what it takes to get what he wants. In fact many Russian intellectuals believe there has to be a “Great Final War” between the East and West. This is why Putins rhetoric is becoming more and more radical and eschatological. Otherwise they believe the west will hold Russia and China down for centuries. Those like Alexander Dugin believe that only after “The Last War of the World Island” will Russia be able to rise from the ashes and take its rightful place as the world hegemony.
It’s an insane ideology of self fulfilling prophecy. Just read the book of Dugin’s mentioned above. He spells out the way Russia can take over the world and it all starts with Ukraine.
Basically these ppl can’t be reasoned with Nate. They have to be shot before they kill our families and everything we value. So you see you may not be interested in war Nate, but Russia is and they are coming for your family. Biden is doing all he can to hold him back and bleed them dry before they are able to take the fight to NATO. This war is a prelude to a multi year conflict designed to fully mobilize all of Russia against NATO and the west. You see Dugin and Putin and so many other Russian elites understand that Russias days are numbered. It’s a dying civilization that in its final death throes plans to take the world down with it.
So what do you do Nate when faced with these facts. Most folks don’t see the full picture here but many in key positions around the world do.
Stop thinking Biden is a fool. He is doing all he can to dismantle the Russian economy and war machine without losing one American life. Lets just pray someone gets to Putin before he is ready to push that button.

Some may say Nate that maybe you don’t have a thing for war but war has a thing for you. There is no stopping this train of fools and barbaric thugs. History has a momentum of its own and ppl have to get ready bc these folks in Moscow don’t want Peace. They want a full mobilization to take on the west and NATO. This is 1939 all over again and this time we have nukes. So get ready.

The Ukraine war has come about because of the blind ideology of a US government that still thinks it can control and manipulate the rest of the world. Using NATO, the US and other western countries, have threatened Russia for over a decade moving closer and closer to its borders. It’s not surprising that Russia ‘Existentially’ threatened in this way needed to retaliate which it did last year. The only way forward in this dangerous and desperate circumstance which threatens the economic stability of the world, the prospect of a world conflict, escalation to a nuclear exchange is for an immediate ceasefire, intense negotiations and a change of heart from those countries that have caused this mess……
I love your show Nate, but I strongly disagree with you on this!
What you are essentially saying is: "No matter who is right, we should do whatever Putin wants because he has WMDs".
You forgot to mention that by bending to Putin's will, you are throwing the Ukrainians under the bus. The bus being genocide.
It's easy for you to say that because you are sitting comfortably and safely at home.
But imagine for a moment that Putin decided to "liberate" Minnesota, would you still submit to Putin's will?
Do you know how many women have been raped in Ukraine?
Do you know how many children have been killed and kidnapped?
How many elderly have been killed or made homeless?
I think that being used to the planetary perspective, you have lost touch with the human perspective.
