How to Win at Texas Hold’em | Reading Opponents | Poker Tip #13

Texas Holdem Tips Video Source & Information:

The best way to read your opponents is to figure out their betting patterns.

Let’s say there’s a guy named Wayne in Seat 2. If he raises 3-4x BB pre-flop in early position, we can safely assume he has a strong hand – AA, KK, QQ, JJ, AK, AQ, or AJ.

He is not likely to raise with TT or AT because he will be afraid of risking that much money on missing the flop. If you’re playing against Wayne and you call this raise, it will be easy to figure out where he stands.

If the board is high, check if you’re first to act. If he bets, he’s confident in his hand. If he checks, he does not feel confident.

If the board is middle or low cards and you’re first to act or he checks, bet at least half the pot. This will let you know if he has an overpair or air. If he calls or raises, he has an overpair. If he folds, he had AK, AQ, or AJ.

For post-flop action, whether it’s Wayne or someone else, always remember that at least 90% of players will bet the flop strong when they’re trying to protect top pair, call when on a draw, and check for one of two reasons.

They either check because they have air and waiting to fold to a bet or they check because they have a monster and they’re setting a trap.

That is the only big mystery in this game. The best way to figure out the answer to that mystery is to bet the turn.
