My First Time Playing Short Deck Poker! (ACTION!)

Texas Holdem Tips Video Source & Information:

Short deck rule differences:
-2’s through 5’s are removed from the deck.
-Flush beats a full house, since they are tougher to make.
-A wheel is A6789
-Everyone ante’s $5, plus a $5 blind on the button

In some variations, trips beats a straight. We played with a straight still beating trips here. According to Jason, if you play the reverse it can kill a lot of the action… for example you always have to be worried about someone having a set when you have a straight draw, and could be drawing dead already.

This game is ACTION. My first time ever playing Short Deck NL Texas Holdem, and we have all the hole cards! The game took place at the Peppermill in Reno, NV during Run It Up Reno. Jason Somerville, who has a bunch more experience playing this poker game than I do, joins me to help break down the action, give some tips and tricks, and count how much we both won or lost.

  2. All these people complaining, and I get it, it's not what they are used to. But it's not a vlog, you don't call it one, it's just something different. People expecting a vlog when it's not one and doesn't say it is one isn't a reason to freak out.

  3. Andrew, can you tell me what's the music at the start of this video. you have also used it in another video. thanks!

  4. Liked the short deck vid. Somerville is a smart guy and smart guys like to talk. Usually a lot. I don't agree with many of the commenters about him. Vlog had a different feel but loved the graphics & game looked fun. I would have maybe like to see a short highlight reel of big hands even if you were not the beneficiary of them. Kind of felt like a LATB vibe but ALL Andrew. Keep on crushing it.

  5. Somerville sounds a Kia salesman. I only watch your vlog because it is different and unique. Your Vlog has poker, drone, travels, foodies, bars ……and LIFE . Please stay solo.

  6. Hi Andrew, I'm afraid I have to agree that the thumbs down (though I won't actually press the button). The tone in this video is radically different, and not in a good way. Sometimes, the combination of two things adds up to more than the sum of the parts. This is not one of those times, your styles just don't hamonise. You are soft-spoken, JS is not. Your delivery speed is medium, he is super fast (to the point where I personally feel totally overwhelmed — geez, slow it down, couldya). You say a few select things, he 'steamrolls' right back in for what feels like two minutes. If this was JS's channel, all of that would be fine, but it's not. People come here for you, so why are you hardly there? Everything that is being said might be interesting, but the current format is so offputting that I find it very difficult to care. It's totally possible that there's an audience for a clip like this. The question is whether your current subscribers are among them. Reading the comments here, perhaps not. Which is totally fine, of course, nothing wrong with attracting different people. Still, something to think about. Personally, I love your previous clips. They are a great combination of poker and personal elements, with a delivery that is human, warm, and authentic. Greetings from down-under 🙂

  7. You guys talked way too much for not knowing much about strategy. It was kind of annoying.

  8. LOVED this format! Especially good considering it's an intro to short deck, so the back & forth discussion helps us start to get a feel for it. If you decide this was a one-off for the vlog, appreciate links if you guy do another.
