Great advice! Having played a learning game and just getting slaughtered, I can attest that that really made me not want to play that game again, or at least not with that person.
When I introduced my friend to Age of Sigmar he had come from a D&D background and he asked me questions like "can my hero pick up his weapon?" After killing a guy. And told him "it's not in the rules but love it! That sounds fun" we then introduced a D20 and made it into a weird mesh of games the turned out really fun! Sure it was messy but we had a blast and he wanted to play again! Dont ever let the rules get in the way of a good time!
