Remember, the adjustment to your poker strategy is the same whether the ante is coming from the big blind or the button or all players at the table.
As the ante, or blinds, get larger there is more dead money in the pot to be won so aggression and playing more hands gets rewarded.
One ‘poker trick’, so to speak, involves 3-bets and playing more aggressively.

Generally speaking people are going to understand that because there is an ante they need to be adjusting and open raising more hands.
These people usually aren’t used to playing against 3-bets, especially with a wider range, and they will likely end up not calling often enough.
There are two primary important poker tips or poker concepts to take away here- open wider and attack opens wider (especially if your opponents aren’t adjusting properly!)

If you’re building huge chip stacks already but still looking for how to improve at pot limit omaha, no limit hold ‘em, or poker in general, Phil Galfond is here to teach you how to think like a professional poker player.

  1. Weight more towards suited combos more than conventional no ante game.
Should flat more than 3bet than non ante game. Causing 3bets to be more polar than normal game.

  2. good lesson! Important to note that it doesnt matter where the ante comes from, the strategy is the same. I think a lot of people might make the mistake of thinking they "invested more" when they are the one paying it and try to overdefend their "investment"

  3. @philgalfond do you think there’s any adjustment you should make when there’s a BB ante and your short stacked and in early position? For instance, should you shove a bit wider UTG knowing you’re about to be in BB and have to pay the BB and the ante

  5. More online providers NEED to offer ante cash game tables!! It seems like a win-win to me for players and providers.
