Poker Strategy: Fold A Straight In A 3 Bet Pot?

  1. like your content Bart, but your really need to shut up about the Euro's… we get it you don't like them

  2. I think this hand is a great example of the disconnect between CLP content providers and an average bad 2/5 reg or is 1/2 reg. Since he has all the KQ’s here it’s a absolute must call river.

  3. KQ would be a sick shove. Good analysis bro. Bread and butter bet fold. Should bet bigger on turn imo and smaller on river

  4. The Euros open, 3bet and 4bet ranges are wide & aggressive af. True at commerce 5/10 but most notable in vegas in the summer. Adjustments must be made to tournament ranges……the question is what specific adjustments are most profitable?.

  5. I don't understand why you'd ever go for a valuebet at the end, tbh. Seems like a clear check/call. Especially against a player that you think is 'trying to run over you' or 'pushing you around'. – Our line looks really strong, so… what are we trying to get value from? KQs or K9ss… That's about it, right?

  6. I'm calling all day long here..is he really playing KJ or KT that slowly on a dangerous board? There is no way he can put you a straight either. And those odds…i mean, you are pot committed and getting a ridiculous price on a board that a lot of hands miss on..spades don't come in, straights don't come in, JT, QQ, AA don't improve…you just gotta close your eyes and call. Call me a fish or whatever but I see a lot of bluffing and he could also think you are bluffing with an even worse hand as well.

  7. I would not C-bet this hand, because while it flopped an open ended draw and a backdoor flush draw, it was a very bad draw with a lot of reverse implied odds. We could already be drawing near dead against AQ or Q9, and if a Q comes, we make the low end of a 4-straighter.

So if you 3-bet this and get action and see this flop, I honestly think the best play is to just check-fold and cut your losses. I see a lot of downside potential in this situation and very little upside. As played I would check-call the river against someone, who I fell is "pushing me around", and I think, the bet is really bad.

What are we hoping to get called by? There is KQ and AK, but that is a maximum of 16 combos, we beat, and which might call. And then there is all the stuff, we lose to. There are 16 combos of AQ, 4 combos of Q9 suited, 2 combos of KT-KJ suited, 6 combos of TT, JJ. So just looking at what hands are possible and somewhat reasonable for him to call our 3-bet with, we can get called by 16 worse combos, but we lose to 28.

Then you can start to go "oh but I dont think, he has AQ, because he would have raised it on the flop or turn". And maybe he would. But now you are making big assumptions about your opponents strategy, and you are doing it in a biased way. Because would he perhaps not also sometimes 4-bet AK preflop, or fold KQ offsuit?

The fact of the matter is, that within typical ranges in a 3-bet pot, 98 is only a medium strong hand on this board, and therefore its a clear check on the river. Its even close between a check-call and check-fold, because some players will just not have enough worse hands in their range, if they bet this river after calling bets on both the flop and turn.

  8. thats the problem with fish moves , they are either dumb as bad or brilliant, no in between , thats why gto approach is basically the way i go unless im 99% sure who im dealing with.
