Phil Galfond explains today why to be good at poker in 2023 you do not need much more Math instruction beyond high school Algebra. Playing NLH and PLO may accelerate your bank account growth one way or another but we don’t need vectors and statistical analysis to figure it out!

Playing poker well, whether it’s live low stakes no limit hold ‘em or online high stakes pot limit omaha, doesn’t require a calculus degree. If you want to play poker well it might require investing in yourself by getting poker coaching or joining a poker training site like Run it Once, but it shouldn’t require a four year degree in applied Physics.

Are you a new poker player or a poker beginner? Do you just need the best poker strategy or do you have a high stakes poker related question you’d like a poker professional’s advice on? Leave a comment and your question might end up in the next one of these quick poker tips videos!

  1. I took HS math in Texas… So feel personally attacked 😡😡😡🤣🤣🤣

  2. Be good at pattern recognition and you can be profitable in Poker. If you're playing vs pro's it'll be more "correct play"

  3. Americans continually score either in the mid- or bottom-tier when it comes to math and science compared to their international peers.

  4. I failed high school math but I’m a winning player. You primarily need to know percentages of common outcomes. Just knowing the % likelihood of making a flush with a flush draw and how likely you are to make a set and betting correct pot odds is most of what you need. I used the math book by red chip poker to learn

  5. What's up Phil Can you make a video about 3 and 4 betting pre flop ranges. The old school vs new school thinking?
