How to Play 3 Card Poker
There are many different variations of the traditional poker game and another version of it just happens to be 3 Card Poker. If you need a little help understanding the game, we’ll give you a brief tutorial on how to play.
The first thing you need to know is that, as its name suggests, you only get dealt three cards when playing the game. Also, unlike other poker games, you don’t play against opponents seated at your table, instead, you play against the dealer in much the same way as you would when playing Blackjack.
Hand Rankings
Another aspect of the game you will need to consider is the value of the various hands, which differ slightly from other poker games including the likes of Texas Hold Em Poker. The hand rankings in 3 Card Poker are as follows:
– High Card
– Pair
– Flush
– Straight
– 3 of a Kind
– Straight Flush
Another important aspect to remember about 3 Card Poker is the Ace which is always a high card, except when paired with an Ace, 2, 3 Straight.
Betting
Before the game can begin and before the cards can be dealt, you will need to decide whether you make an ante bet, a pair plus bet or both. The different types of bet you can make when playing 3 Card Poker are as follows:
– Ante Bet (A bet on whether your hand will beat the dealers)
– Play Bet (An amount equal to the ante which you make if you want to play against the dealer)
– Pair-Plus Bet (This is a bet you make on whether you will be dealt a pair or better and which will be paid out regardless if you beat the dealer’s hand or not)
– Ante Bonus Bet (If you get dealt a Flush, 3 of a Kind or a Straight Flush, this bet will pay out, regardless if you beat the dealer’s hand or not)
After making the ante bet, you will need to decide if you wish to play the hand or fold. If you decide to fold, you lose the ante bet and if you wish to play, you will need to place a play bet
The Showdown
After all cards have been dealt and bets have been finalized, the dealer will turn his cards over to see who wins. The dealer must have at least a Queen high to play the hand. If the dealer doesn’t, the game is over and all players are paid out 1 to 1 on their ante bet and the play bet is pushed. If the dealer has Queen high or better, the showdown begins. If your hand beats the dealer’s, you get paid out 1 to 1 on the ante bet and the play bet. If the player loses, the dealer takes both bets.
